Voxeo Customer Summit next week...

customersummit2010-1.jpgAs I mentioned in a post last month, I will be in Orlando, Florida, next week (June 21-23) at the Voxeo Customer Summit. We've got a great agenda of speakers, great attendance, some excellent partners demonstrating their solutions based on Voxeo platforms, a keynote by former hacker Kevin Mitnick and much more. Some great announcements coming up as well...

If you are interested in developing communications applications that work with voice, SMS/texting, IM/chat, mobile web and many other channels, the event will be a great place to learn about some of the leading offerings in the space. Registration is free.

During the event, I expect to be posting photos to my Flickr stream and tweeting to both @danyork and @voxeo. I'm sure I'll be posting to the Voxeo blog portal as well.

If you are coming to the Voxeo Customer Summit, I'll look forward to meeting you there!

Want to learn about Voxeo? About building apps? Attend Voxeo's Customer Summit June 21-23

customersummit2010-1.jpgWould you like to learn more about Voxeo, this crazy and cool company I work for? Would you like to learn about how you can build communications applications that go beyond voice and let you interact with customers via SMS/text, IM, Twitter, web and video? Would you like to meet Voxeo executives, partners and others in the industry?

As I wrote about over on the Voxeo Talks blog, you can do all that and MUCH more at the Voxeo Customer Summit 2010 at the amazing Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando on June 21-23, 2010.

Note that the Summit is for anyone working with Voxeo services... so even if you just have a free developer account over on our Evolution developer portal (or are thinking about getting one), you are welcome to come down to Orlando to join in the fun.

On the Summit agenda, you'll see that we have:

  • Sessions about the future of Voxeo and our roadmap
  • Product spotlights highlighting what is new in each of our products
  • Business sessions showing you how you can grow your business
  • Technical deep dives to help you get the most out of our services
  • Feedback sessions where we want to hear from you about what you want
  • Demo sessions where you can see the latest software from Voxeo and several partners, talk with the actual engineers behind the products and learn in a live setting about the products
  • Meals and social events including a performance by the Blue Man Group!

It will be an outstanding two days of learning, interaction and fun. The best part is...

REGISTRATION IS FREE!

That's right! In keeping with our free downloads and free developer accounts and free training, we decided to give you this "All Access" pass to get an inside view of Voxeo... for free! All you have to do is get yourself to Orlando, FL, and pay for your hotel, etc.

To find out more about the Customer Summit including discounts on staying at the Hard Rock Hotel, please visit our summit site at:

www.voxeo.com/summit2010/

It's a great time to visit Orlando and given that the Hard Rock Hotel is at Universal Studios you may want to stay a bit longer or bring your family along. Fans of Harry Potter will be delighted by the fact that the brand new Harry Potter ride opens up at Universal just 3 days before our Summit!

Space is filling up fast at the hotel, so please register as soon as possible and book your hotel room.

I'm looking forward to seeing many folks at Summit - we're excited to show you all the great new products and services we're launching and in learning about how we can help you grow your services and businesses.

See you in Orlando!

Photos from Voice Biometrics Conference 2010 - of speakers... and Manhattan...

As I mentioned previously, I spoke at the Voice Biometrics Conference in Jersey City, NJ. While there, I brought along my Nikon D90 DSLR and took a series of pictures of the speakers at VoiceBioCon. Click on the image below to go over to the set on Flickr:
voicebiocon2010-1.jpg

The Hyatt Regency Jersey City turned out to be an incredible place to take pictures of Manhattan and the New York City area. The hotel is right on the river across from Manhattan. You could also see the Empire State Building down one direction... and the Statue of Liberty up in the other direction. The buildings in Jersey City were also quite amazing to shoot. Here is a set on Flickr of Manhattan and the Jersey City shore:

The conference itself was a great event... I'll be writing up some thoughts from the event soon.

Speaking at Voice Biometrics Conf next Tues, Weds, May 4-5, in NY

voicebiocon.jpgIf any of you will be at the Voice Biometrics Conference next week (May 4-5) in the New York area (Jersey City, actually), I'll be there speaking on Wednesday about 'Seeding the Cloud - Authentication as a Service'. I'm arriving Monday evening and will be there through early Thursday morning.

"Voice Bio Con", as it is called, is a rather comprehensive gathering of the major players in the voice biometrics / voice authentication / voice verification space. Great agenda with some excellent speakers (and yeah, I'm on that list, too). I wrote over on the VOIPSA blog about the number of case studies and real world deployments that will be discussed.

It should be a great event... I'm on that panel and will also be talking about Voxeo's voice biometric partner program where you can try out voice biometric solutions for free using our hosted platform and the hosted services from four of the major voice biometric vendors. I'm looking forward to meeting up with some friends there and undoubtedly having some great conversations and learning a good bit.

If you are at the event, please do say hello! If you want to go and haven't registered yet, there's a discount code you can use to save $200.

See (some of) you in the Big Apple...

P.S. And yes, you can safely assume that I'll be tweeting (probably both @danyork and @voxeo) and blogging from the event...

Using Twitterfall to watch the eComm twitter stream...

ecomm2010.jpgThis week is eComm America 2010, probably my favorite conference to attend because it truly is the premiere gathering of all the thought leaders and alpha-geeks in the communication space. The schedule is full of friends of mine and it's all around a great place to be. Voxeo (my employer) is a Platinum sponsor and we have a team and series of activities going on out there.

However, due to some personal schedule conflicts, I'm not there this year... the first time I've missed an eComm in North America.

I have, though, been watching the Twitter stream... and doing so using a site I found a while back called... Twitterfall. What's cool about Twitterfall is that if you have a second computer or screen, you can just set up Twitterfall to run on that computer/screen ... and it just sits there constantly updating based on the real-time flow of tweets coming out on whatever searchterm(s) you set up. So you can get your own little "kiosk" going that you can just glance over at from time to time. It automatically refreshes so you aren't ever having to manually trigger it.

Here is Twitterfall searching on "#eComm": http://twitterfall.com/?trend=%23eComm!%231F3547

The image below shows what it looks like. You can also click on "Hide Panels" to remove the left and right sidebars. You also can go to the right side of each tweet and, if you are logged into Twitter, have access to actions like reply, retweet, etc.

All in all an enjoyable way to monitor a twitter stream in the background. Kudos to the folks who created the site!

The many faces of ITEXPO - a photo set of the people at the show

While speaking at ITEXPO and the Cloud Communications Summit two weeks ago, I naturally had to bring along my new Nikon D90 DSLR and take a few photos. Following the lead of what I'd watched RJ Auburn do a few times (notably in this set from the Voxeo kickoff meeting), I wound up focusing on people for a change, and the resulting set of photos is now up in Flickr and previewed below (click the image to go to the larger Flickr set):

Faces of ITEXPO East 2010 - a set on Flickr-1.png

If you've been around our industry for any length of time, or been to any of the many events, many of the faces will be familiar to you. Others may be newer folks you've not yet come to know. I've put their names on the individual Flickr photos and their affiliations in the Flickr tags. Obviously this is just a subset of the many folks who were at the ITEXPO event... just people that I ran into during the course of my time there.

Anyway, the photos are up there... enjoy... and yes, it's probably something I'll do again as it was fun to do - and man, I love how a 50mm prime lens can create great images.

I also posted a set in Voxeo's photostream of Voxeo speakers:

Voxeo Speakers at ITEXPO

And I posted another set of photos of the Miami Beach area:

Miami Beach Places and Landscapes (ITEXPO East 2010) - a set on Flickr-1.png

Fun, fun, fun...

Speaking at ITEXPO / Cloud Communications Summit Jan 20-22 in Miami...

itexpo.jpgOn Monday I'm heading down to Voxeo's corporate headquarters in Orlando, FL, but the week after that I'll be heading down to ITEXPO in Miami Beach, FL, where several of us from Voxeo will be speaking

Ironically, I won't be speaking actually at the formal "ITEXPO", but rather at the Ingate SIP Trunking Seminars and then at a new "Cloud Communications Summit" coordinated by Thomas Howe. Somehow my sessions wound up back-to-back... I'm just hoping the rooms aren't too far apart!

Voxeo will also have a couple of exciting announcements, so it should be a great event. Here's my speaking schedule:

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

11:30-12:00, Ingate SIP Trunking Seminars, Dan York

“The Enterprise Edge and Security”

Representing the VoIP Security Alliance (VOIPSA), Dan York will give an overview of security concerns related to Unified Communications and VoIP with a focus on SIP trunking.

12:00-1:30pm, The Cloud Communications Summit, Dan York

“Cloud Telephony for the Enterprise”

This session discusses tradeoffs in deploying communications applications behind the firewall, with a hosted partner or through elastic mechanisms such as Amazon’s EC2.

Other speakers planned for this session are Troy Davis, CEO of CloudVox, and Evan Cooke, Co-Founder and CTO of Twilio. Thomas Howe will moderate the session.

If you are going to be at ITEXPO, drop me a line. I'll have some of my podcasting gear and other equipment, so I intend to be producing some content from the show floor. I'll of course be tweeting, both as @danyork and @voxeo

See (some of) you there..

Out at VoiceCon next week in SF - Presence, Web 2.0, Voice Mashups

voiceconsf2009.jpgIf any of you will be out at VoiceCon or Enterprise 2.0 next week in San Francisco, I'll be out there speaking at both conferences. I have the full schedule in a post on the Voxeo Talks blog, but for VoiceCon it looks like:
Monday, Nov 2 3:15 – 4:15 pm – Presence – Current Progress and Future Trends Wednesday, Nov 4 3:15 – 4:15 pm – Developing Voice Apps Using Mashups and SOA Thursday, Nov 5 8:00 – 9:45 am – Web 2.0 and Enterprise Communications – Fad or the Future?

The full descriptions can be found on a page on our Voxeo Events page. I'm very much looking forward to all three sessions out there. The first is a "reactor panel" where we have a discussion around the issue of getting richer presence info between systems - and moderator Don Van Doren specifically asked me to be there to react to what the larger vendors will be saying. The second panel is just two of us (myself and a gent from IBM) talking about creating mashups and then the last is a "Deep Dive" that Irwin Lazar and I will be doing into what is the state of "Web 2.0 in Enterprise Communications".

Should all be fun.... if you are out there at either conference, let me know. See some of you out there...

eComm Europe in Amsterdam this week (Oct 28-30) - THE show for communications disruption

Emerging Communications 2009For those out there interested in how telephony - and all communications - is being disrupted, the place to be this week is very definitely eComm Europe in Amsterdam. It's definitely a gathering of the "tribe" of people who are on out there defining the bleeding edge of the communications space. Great speakers, great schedule... it should be a great event!

Sadly, a schedule conflict prevented my attendance, but as I wrote about on the Voxeo Talks blog, Voxeo will have a presence there in the form of multiple speakers as well as a booth. More info can be found on the Voxeo event page at:

http://blogs.voxeo.com/events/ecomm-europe/

If you are at eComm Europe, please do say hello to RJ Auburn or Jay Phillips... or stop by our booth. Also, look for the fun giveaway in the eComm bag. ;-)

And if, like me, you can't get there... you can follow along in the eComm tweet stream and see info posted up on the eComm blog. It should be a great show, so I'm definitely looking forward to hearing and reading more about what goes on there.

I'll be at VON in Miami on Monday, Sept 21, 2009

von2009logo.jpg If any of you will be down at VON next week in South Beach, Miami, FL, next week, I'll be part of two presentations on Monday, September 21, 2009. The full abstracts are outlined on a Voxeo events page, but the titles are:
10 – 11:15am, Beyond Boxes: The Future of the PBX 11:30 – 12:30pm, The Apps Race: Building a Developer Community in the New Telecom World

The second one should be fun as it's with my good friend Thomas Howe (who also has a spiffy new website). It's just Thomas and I and a moderator, talking about developer ecosystems. Good stuff!

I'm only there at VON on Monday. That evening I'll be driving up to Orlando where I'll be spending Tuesday through Friday at Voxeo's corporate office. But if you are down at VON, please do say hello.

P.S. And yes, this is the "new" VON put on by Virgo Publishing after they purchased the VON name and tradeshow from Pulvermedia. It will be interesting to see how it is as a show.
